Im having a gut feeling that he could go this summer. I think RVP is going to be the main man up top, its clear LVG loves him so it leaves me wondering will LVG cash in on Rooney while he could still fetch a good fee on the market.
I am not sure what our new formation will be under the new boss and it leaves me wondering about Rooney.
Will he fit in to LVG's system. Will he continue to be used out of position and thus be ineffective?
Will his Ego be ok with RVP being the main man, possibly the captain?

I will not be surprised if he gets sold this summer.

My feeling is to sell him for a big fee.
I have never fully forgotten his previous behavior holding the club to ransom and his wages are just scandalous.
With RVP/Welbeck/Mata/Januzaj/Kagawa/Hernandez we have plenty of attacking options so selling him could be an option.
40 or 50 million would test the resolve

sure its 30 million as an average for most decent palyers these days.

rooney is a class above, the only (good) problem we have is that RVP is a better goal scorer and they both play in the same position

We wouldn't sell him without having a world class replacement. I think the club has learnt its lesson after Ronaldo.

I think I would sell him, just don't see how he can be accommodated in the same team as RVP and Mata. Mata is so poor defensively that he needs at least 1 solid DM before you get to the back line. But for me, Mata is our best player. I don't gove a fuck about his lack of defensive duties. When you've got a player that good he can be afforded as a luxury. Just means everyone behind him needs to stay switched on. It was a silly long term deal at 300k a week wit Wayne. If LVG decides not to start Wayne he'll be the most expensive bench warmer in history. Bet Rooney thought he was getting the captaincy this season, RVP has that nailed on.

But maybe everyone is making too much noise about it, journos included. Barca, Madrid, Bayern etc all have more than one or 2 star players and still seem to manage to get them to gel and play together. Maybe, just maybe they can all play together. After all, bit cliched like, but if you're that good you can play anywhere.

I think van Gaal will try and fit him in. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go with a 4222, as long as we get a strong midfielder (Vidal?) to play alongside Herrera. Those two behind two attacking midfielders (Mata and Januzaj/Kagawa/new signing, maybe Di Maria?) with RVP and Rooney up top, perhaps.

Lots of United fans assume van Gaal will go with the 433 or 343 formations he's preferred elsewhere, but he's always said the formation isn't as important as the philosophy. He'll work with what he has, and fit in as many of his best players as he can.

Also, my view isn't a poll option. I think we should keep him and play him, within whatever system van Gaal goes with. I wouldn't build the team around him though.

At 28 it's too late to try and build a team around him, we have younger players that would give us more time to do that, secondly Rooney is vastly overrated, the World Cup proved that, wherever you play him. His preferred role is the No 10 position behind the main striker, play him there and you get a good game out of him, the problem is that Mata is younger and a better fit there, so is Kagawa.
The only option is for van Gaal to go for a flexible 442 with Rooney and RVP interchanging up front, with Mata and Herrera in middle and two wide defensive minded players, like Valencia.

His best position definitely isn't as a number 10 behind the main striker, he's far better up top as the main striker. These days anyway. A few years ago I'd have agreed with you, but he isn't creative enough in there. He's far better at taking chances than making them

I think he's going to end up in midfield still.

I do think that it would make sense, however unfortunately I don't believe that Rooney himself would be very happy with that and would throw another hissy fit.

I don't think anyone would take him on the huge wages he's on here and as he's only just signed I see him sticking around for at least 1 season. I suppose he could always be an option in January though given he won't be cup tied in the CL.

A lot of people have written Rooney off but I'm not keen to do so. He's a quality player and I'm hopeful LVG will figure out not only a way to get the best out of him but a way to do so in a system that's also getting the best out of our other 2 best players - van Persie and Mata.

Not arsed either way. He's messed the club about too much in the past and I try not to get personally invested in the players any more.

If LVG can use him then keep him. If not, get rid.

Van Gaal has a lot of reputations. One is getting the best out of his players and another is dumping high reputation players out. Basically this will come down to whether or not Rooney plays for van Gaal. If he does, and really gets his head down he could be invaluable. If he doesn't take to van Gaal he'll be out.

According to Red Issue apparently. Seen it on Twatter.

Thoughts? I know a lot won't be happy... Good decision IMO and puts to bed the rumours that Rooney won't fit into LVG's United.

Excellent stuff. He's very vocal on the pitch and ushers everyone round, most play goes through him and we're not the same without him. Good decision. Evans to deputy anyone?

Surprised, but no problem with it. He's been our best player since Ronaldo left
