    16th July 2017, 0300 - MUTV/ESPN

    Everyone staying awake to watch?

De Gea and Joel Pereira will play 45 minutes each. Rojo, Shaw and Young injured. Hopefully we'll see Lindelof and Lukaku in action.

    Looking forward to it!

1-0 Rashford with a nice finish inside 2 minutes - well done Mou for playing him in his natural position!

2-0 inside 20 minutes, nice assist from Mata and it's Rashford again. This front two stuff is a revelation. Jones and Smalling looking solid at the back.

3-0 even Fellaini's in on the act! It's good to see United scoring goals, what a treat, even if Galaxy can't defend for shit.

It was worth keeping awake all night to watch!

I'm not going to read too much into it for the season ahead but it was a plus for this game that we played with a forward partnership - Rashford and Mata first half, Martial and Lukaku second half - good to see the younger two in their more natural position and Rashford should really have completed his hat-trick.

I was impressed with how solid Smalling and Jones looked in the first half. For me they edged it against Bailly and Lindelof, their second half replacements. If only the former two could keep fit for a season!

On our new signings, Lindelof wasn't tested too much but he put in one really well timed tackle and missed a good opportunity to score, Lukaku was average for me, missed a couple of decent opportunities and was overshadowed by others, but let's give him his first game.

Overall, based on this friendly you'd be forgiven for thinking Jose has changed his ways. Two up top, a 5-2 scoreline and we didn't attempt to shut up shop at any time. Will it be the same approach in the Premier League or against stronger teams? Don't be fooled lol.

The City and Madrid games will obviously tell us more.

One criticism for the record. After the game Mourinho commented on Lukaku: -

“He didn’t score goals but he played better than the ones who [did] score goals."

I wonder how Martial and Rashford, who scored or assisted four of our five goals, feel about that.

They probably shouldn't give a fuck, unless they're snowflakes like you?

Only someone with an agenda would try to paint a comment designed to protect our new £75mil striker from criticism as a criticism of other players.

    Assclown.

    Wahey someone's awake!

    Interesting...

No comment on the match, the players, my positive comments, but one criticism of Mou and within the hour Nev takes his head out of his arse to defend him :lool:

On Mou's comment, I understand backing our new signing, but he didn't need to compare or put down the other lads to do that when they had done so well. Why not just say they all contributed and Lukaku brought x, y, z to the table.

Why devalue the goals and assists of Martial and Rashford? Does he not think? Is it something in the translation with his English? Does he just have that low an opinion of Martial and Rashford as strikers no matter what they do?

He didn't put anyone down, unless you're an illiterate retard and can't read properly what he said. He simply praised Lukaku's performance and said that he played well despite not scoring. You're making more of it than needs to be made if it, as per fucking usual, because that's all you do.

I didn't watch the match, which is why I haven't commented on it.

    You're an assclown.

No he fucking didn't. He clearly compared his players and implied Lukaku played better than Martial and Rashford ("he played better than the ones who [did] score goals"). You're denying facts to cover his ass now.

Here's Mourinho criticising Rashford after the game.

You're an assclown, Gav. The sooner you fuck off to another forum the better. I'm not sure I could put up with another season of your agenda driven bullshit.

I know it was only a friendly but Pogba, Lukaku and Martial seemed to show a great understanding of one another already. Seeing the two entirely separate XI's either half was an impressive feat imo — two very strong teams, all players looking fit and eager; it's testament to the quality of selection we'll enjoy in the coming session and I already get the feeling we'll be rampaging to victory next May.

I'd like to to see the above lineup. The strength and pace there would hit teams like a freight train imo.

    Miki as a CM?

Playing a 4-2-3-1 with Pogba and Herrera will leave us too open imo, but agree re strength in depth etc.

It's a 4-1-2-3 though, not 4-2-3-1, with Herrera as a CDM, Pogba and Mkhitaryan as advanced midfielders, and a striker with 2 wide forwards.

It's only a template formation, not meant to be read as being literal and rigid.

The bolded above is my main point here. As I said, yeah it's only one pre-season game, but in years gone by we've always seen these wholesale substitutions littered with youth personnel and low level squad players who you just knew would barely have any impact on the season to come.

    Sunday seemed different.

Two entirely different XI's playing two vastly different systems, yet every player seeming to be making, or being prepared to make, a strong case for selection come season's start.

Even Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe and Andreas + Joel Pereira. I don't get the impression that they were just there to make up the numbers as SAF's pre-season youngsters often were — I think these could well become relatively important players over the coming year. There's strong competition for places right across the squad, and yet we're still expecting a couple more high value signings.

So as pre-season friendlies go, I can't recall seeing a more determined start than vs Galaxy the other night. LvG's first pre-season went stunningly well, of course, and as we all know that only descended into naivety and folly once the Premier League kicked off, but Mourinho's vastly more experienced English League knowhow won't allow us to make the same mistake. We're in a very good place indeed right now.
