Cunti won't fancy this one fooking bit.
These are often undersold but could throw up some right tactical battles.
Have to say that I'm not particularly worried about facing these. With a for Fellaini or Pogba I think I'd be disappointed with a draw. I'll take that now to be honest.

These are normally better games than the Pool matches in recent years. They hammered us at the bridge last year and we done them at Old Trafford with a tactical masterclass. I don't see Jose doing anything much different this year than how he played against them in the game at Old Trafford. Watch their killer player like a hawk and hope to counter them over and over. They've got weaknesses in their side that we should be looking to exploit. I think they have Kante back though which is a big deal for them.

    What's the line up guess??

    I'm going for...

    --------------DeGea
    Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Young
    -------Matic, McTominey
    -----Herrera (man marking)
    -----Martial Lukaku Rashford

Probably dreaming with Martial and Rashford, but honestly, who else do you play? Mata I can't see happening and Mkhi has stank the place out for about 9 games on the bounce now. He was absolutely awful today. Who would you play in place of Scott? I just don't see anyone else who's stuck their hand up for a midfield start ahead of him. Would be a dream to have Pogba or Fellaini back for this but there's been no mention of them being near fit so I doubt it.

    Maybe Jones in midfield??

Erm, Ferguson against Real Madrid iirc.

We have no midfielders. 2/3 of the midfield the last time we played them is missing. If we're going to play 3 in the middle which I presume we will with Ander or someone playing on Hazard then we need to have another midfielder. McTominey is an option but a massive risk against Chelsea at the Bridge. Mhi has been playing a lot recently deeper but he's been dreadful. So what? Jones playing on Hazard as a man marker??

Yeah, there's about a zero percent chance we'll start with Rashford and Martial away at Chelsea. Mkhi, Lingard and Mata are all better defensive options.

Also can't see McTominay being trusted for this game. He did ok against Benfica though it was his lack of closing down that allowed their only meaningful shot when De Gea pulled off a great save.

I think we could see the same team and shape that beat Spurs.

3 at the back for me. Chelsea were absolute garbage last night. Some of the defending was shocking. 3 at the back and we quickly change shape and hit them in the counter.

Yea but. Attack attack attack attack attack an all that :lool:
I think Herrera did a job on Hazard last time. If we play 3 at the back we could possibly have Jones step out. It's been used quite well recently but it's going to need some epic concentration if we're to sacrifice Herrera again. It worked last time but Hazard wasn't smart enough, if he's got any sense he will have learned to run Herrera away to create space for someone else. Not even sure we will man mark him this time.

The body language of the Chelsea players was not great last night, but it's easy to fall into the trap that we follow on from a 2-0 CL win v a team who were hammered, so I'd be looking for caution first, then wear them down.

    Is Fellaini not back?

We should put Herrera on Hazard.

That means however, we should play another CM to sit along side Matic and play 2 up top. I'd go with Rashers and Lukaku, and in this scenario, McTominay is afforded a start cuz no one else is fit.

    So...

    DdG

    Jones, Bailly, Smalling

    Herrera (marking Hazard)

    Valencia Matic McTominay Young

    Lukaku Rashford

I'd take that. Why is Rashford/Martial not a goer?

Not a hope in hell is Lukaku on the bench. On current form both of those deserve to start. They're comfortably our two most inform attacking players.

McTominay can't play this, he struggled a bit positionally and made a couple of errors we can't really afford in a game that both sides will look to keep tight.
Martial and Rashford is a dream too. We need balance.
Chelsea will be hurting from that beating last night, that will make them more dangerous imo. If we're to sacrifice Herrera or anyone else to man mark then we will need experience and control from our deep midfield and defence. McT won't offer that.
I'm still not convinced man marking Hazard will reap the same benefits as last time. Cunti will be schooling him on dragging Herrera around and using it to Chelseas advantage.
